Global Digital Communications
The Information Technology Telecom Systems (ITTS) major is a 2 year post secondary technology program that covers the global digital communication systems used for voice, video, data and wireless. Topics of discussion are VOIP (voice over IP), Wide Area Networks (WANs), Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs), computer networks, telephone networks, cellular networks, wireless networks and service provider networks which create the backbone for the Internet. As a matter of fact, the information that you are reading now has passed through several telecommunication providers to arrive on your display!

Is the Telecom Systems Major for you?
How do telephone conversations travel around the world? How is the Internet connected between cities? How do major corporations share their data communication with branch offices around the world? If you are interested, then the Telecom Systems Major is for you.
During the course of the Telecom Systems major, you will discover the digital communication secrets of the data communications industry from handsets and cell phones to central office equipment; microwave transmitters to satellites.
You will discover that the telecommunications industry is the digital backbone for the Internet and that all computers communicate on the Internet using a telecommunication provider!
You will also discover that all major businesses such as banks, department stores, grocery stores, retail outlets, oil and gas companies, schools, hospitals, governments and small businesses rely on the telecommunication system for their data communication needs from 1-800 numbers, to Wide Area Networks (WANs), to Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) and private telephone systems.

Fast Track "Job-Ready" Option
Short on time and can't afford to spend 2 years? Take a look at the Telecommunications Installation Technician (pdf) 21 week Apprentice program. It will get you working and the courses can be credited towards completing the 2 year ITTS program at a later time. You spend 15 weeks in class and an additional 6 week work practicum.
